The Idan Raichel Project: A Multicultural Revolution

Image
I haven't ever thought I would write about a musical group but after following the Idan Raiche Project for over ten years, it's time. It's time to let you know all of the good this project has done, it's time to let you know how much impact this group has had on modern Israeli culture, and the impact they've had on my personal life. This is the story of a grass roots multicultural revolution. The Idan Raichel Project was founded by Idan Raichel, a piano songwriter, accordion player and acclaimed producer. Idan however does not take all of the credit, he always puts the spotlight on the amazing talent that he brings together. With over 100 musicians, singers & collaborations over the years, The Idan Raichel Project has created some brilliant musical compositions and created a culture in it of it's own, in Israel and around the world. What's unique about The Idan Raichel Project is that they collaborate with talented musicians from a diverse ran...

Saudi Arabia: Friend or Foe?

Image
I want to address the recent ‘buzz’ about Saudi Arabia and my view may be controversial but it’s an important prospective to consider. We heard news that a Saudi Journalist was murdered in the Saudi Embassy in Turkey.  Is this the first time we’ve heard of people being mistreated by the Saudi government? No. Does that make it right? No. Do we in the western world condone such atrocities? No.  Is the Saudi government an absolute monarchy? Yes. Did this happen on their soil? Yes.  My point is not made, I’m just getting started. Here in the U.S. people don’t think much of Saudi Arabia, they seem to be a country that has a lot of oil, they make their money, and they pretty much stay out of the news. Saudi Aramco is the name of the family owned, state owned oil powerhouse that supplies the world with 12.5 Million barrels of oil per day. That’s a billion dollars in revenue per day, and the company is planning an IPO with a valuation of 2 Trillion.  ...

Starting out on my own...

From when I got my first job at age 15 working in a candy store, I always knew that I'd open my own business one day. At the time I wanted to open a wholesale food distribution company, and over the years that vision changed to, hookah bar, wine store, and real estate developer and now, finally to brokering commercial mortgages for real estate investors. Over the last 15 years, through every job that I had, I always took it as a learning experience. Working for small business owners I was able to get a well rounded understanding of how the business worked, and how the owner thinks. I always learned what to do and sometimes learned what not to do. Through the ups and downs I always gave my best work, as if the company were my own. At times I worked for as little as three months in a company and when I felt that I've learned enough, I would move on. but usually I would stay in a job from six months to year before I got totally bored and needed to move on. To have a fulfilling...

Pleasant Moments in Houston.

Image
It pains me to be one of the thousand people writing their condolences to the families, business owners and millions of refugees sent from their homes, but I must. I must write because I too feel pain on this matter. Not by mere human sympathy but in a sort of convoluted empathy. In a sort of sorrow & familiarity. Texas, such a great state and such amazingly cool people. The biggest of the continental united states and about the same square mileage as the sovereign state of France. Texas is the mammoth of states the mecca of roads and could survive as a country of its own militarily & economically.  The state of Texas has a gross domestic product of 1.6 Trillion ranking 2nd after California, and just ahead of New York. So if your one of those who think that Texas is nothing but horse ranches and egg farms you better get your head straight. The people of Texas are very smart, orderly & well mannered. They are polite, honest and have a strong work ethic. The...

What I Learned From Job Hopping for 10 years.

Image
Long time since my last blog post but here we are. I wanted to talk about my experience in what I call job hopping over the last ten years. Over the last ten years I've worked in many different industries for periods as long as three years & for as short as three months. Ever since I was a little kid, I was starting businesses. My first business that I can remember was drying out Mango seeds on our front porch, branding them as wallets & selling them for 25 cents a piece. Or later selling Soda's out of my locker in school, by the time I was twelve I had a draw full of cash, but what changed? Why did I go job hopping? Why did I not continue my entrepreneurship? Well I did, Just in a different way, when I was about fifteen I was building computers and had my own little IT business. A man told me with a very stern voice, "you had best get out of the computer business, there hasn't been a dime to make since the dot com boom". I immediately began to pan...

Hashtag Sunday Morning (A Poem)

Image
It's a beautiful Sunday morning, a new beginning. Soft music, fresh air, hot coffee and a book, Sunday morning makes my week. A calm aroma surrounded by a quiet urban garden, Birds chirping, Not much else going on, but peace, Subtle, soft Spotify tunes, The coffee is ready, A country song comes on as I see, The book, the coffee, my to do list, "Hey!?" This is Instagram worthy, I smile & sit down to read, I'm grateful for bright Sunday mornings, Hashtag new beginnings Hashtag Instagram worthy Hashtag this feels like an Ikea catalog, On Sunday morning, A clear head to think, To process the week ahead, I hold my coffee close, as I look out my bedroom window, Into the green, through the bars of my black Brooklyn fire escape. The damp, June morning air, The cloudy but peaceful morning sky, A single siren in the distance, Barely echoing over the sounds of my Sunday morning playlist, Someone's in trouble already, I think about ...
