Feeding The Creative Mind
Creative Talent is something embedded in each and everyone of us, whether you are a Billionaire Entrepreneur, a Street Artist, or a child in Africa setting up light fixtures to deter the lions. We all use the creative mind in our daily lives & it is important to keep it active & healthy. Some people are more creative than others but ultimately we must all feed the creative mind in order to progress.
No matter which line of work you may find yourself in, this concept will prove to help you in any way you see fit. No matter what you do for work, how many kids you have to feed or where you are in the world, you need to feed the creative mind. Whether you paint portraits of people for a living or you sit at a boring desk job, feeding the creative mind will help you perform better & eventually love what you do.
When you create something you feel the satisfaction instantly. It makes life more exciting, It makes one feel that they have contributed something to this world, even if it is something as small as putting paper clips next to the copy machine at work. When you do something out of originality, creativity or innovation, you right away are more prone to enjoy what you do along with having an easier time doing it!
Say I'm a clerk at a DMV, the most boring job on the planet, I sit down at my desk & I begin my day. My job is to take photos of people for their new ID Cards and I'm required to hand them in at the end of the day. I can either let them pile up on my desk throughout the day or I can create a system to file them every few hours to clear space on my desk and less stress & more fulfillment. This is a classic example of someone who uses very little creativity in their job but then performs well inn her job, based her own creative efforts.
This is true in any field. No matter which career you choose, you will always have an advantage if you put your creative ability to work. I used to work as a Global Positioning Coordinator for a moving company, I remember the different drivers using different methods to effectively communicate and navigate across the country. Each in their own way.
In the moving company, every driver had their own unique set up in the truck, from charging ports to microwaves to Bluetooth headsets, each driver had there own unique way of optimizing their work-space to make it the best for them. There are many more examples of this but I wanted to display how each and every one of us uses the creative mind in our day to day life; no matter what we do for work. To feed the creative mind means to exercise your ability to create and in turn strengthen your ability to think in a creative way.
Feeding the creative mind is very important, and the more you feed it, the more successful you will be in all areas of your life. It's important to do creative work, even if it's not your day job. I like to wake up in the morning and write in my journal, I write in this blog, even though it's not my full-time job. If I'm not in the mood of writing I like to play guitar, I paint, I take piano lessons etc... These are all activities that will strengthen my creative mind and in turn make my life a lot more fun. How so?
Did you ever get that "Hmmmmmm, maybe we could..." moment? That's your creative mind waking up! You were beginning to create a solution or an innovation or a remedy and the more of those you have the more fun your day will be. Solutions come from the creative mind. Just as much as you need to feed the intellectual mind with knowledge, you need to feed the creative mind with originality and innovation. You can do anything creative, just do something.
You don't have to be an amazing painter or musician, just pick something that you enjoy and that will engage you. Take a picture, edit it on Instagram post it with a good caption and there you have it! While you were picking a few hashtags that you thought would suit the picture, your creative mind was doing a ton of push-ups after a solid meal. Your creative mind is now becoming stronger. I think social media is a positive outlet for creativity and has many useful benefits for your life as a whole if you use it in the right way.
Some people say social media is a waist of time, or that there's no privacy. I think that by using it as a creative outlet for photography, writing, music, comedy and other such activities, we are actually strengthening our creative mind and training ourselves to think in a more creative way. If you waist to much time on it, cut down, if you want to be more private, that's okay, but don't lock yourself out of such a creative powerhouse! Use it to create and use any means necessary to find inspiration.
Inspiration is key. When I do one form of art for a long period of time I grow bored and my content starts to lack depth. I switch to a different creative outlet for a few weeks then move back, to find inspiration and continue perfecting each creative skill. Another thing, it's important to keep an open mind, always be forward thinking and embrace change. The more you feed your creative mind, the more you will be able to adapt to the innovative world going on around us.
The creative mind has the ability to find the opportunity in every situation so even if your not a career artist, you can still benefit from having a healthy creative mind. When you have a healthy creative mind, every challenge will fall to your knees and solutions will start falling from trees. Come to your senses, and create something to inspire positive change in the world around you.
